Farmer's birthday fireworks show A celebratory fireworks display will be held at the weekend in honour of US Consul General Robert Farmer's 60th birthday.

The event will be held at Grape Bay Beach, Paget, on Saturday. It will start at 11.15 p.m. and will last 15 minutes. Nearby residents are advised accordingly.

DIVER FINDS MISSILE ROCKET MOTOR POL BOM Diver finds missile rocket motor A local diver made a shock discovery Saturday night while searching for lobsters.

The man came across what was believed to be a torpedo approximately one-and-a-half miles northeast of Commissioner's Point in some 20 feet of water.

The Police vessel Heron III was dispatched to the scene and on Sunday Police divers located the object and photographed it.

A Police spokeswoman said the object was a rocket motor for a missile and was not explosive. It was not known how long the motor had been there.

The Police towed the rocket motor out beyond Eastern Blue Cut and sunk it in deep water so recreational divers would not come across it again and become concerned.

BOULDERS MAY HELP RAILWAY TRAIL GVT Boulders may help Railway Trail Boulders from the temporary causeway built to carry traffic while Somerset Bridge was under repair could be used to extend a section of Railway Trail.

The Department of Works and Engineering has submitted a planning application to divert a section of the trail near the St. James' Church rectory.

The trail currently crosses the church property. But engineers hope that the path can be diverted and extended right down to the shoreline ending near the bridge.

If the Development Applications Board gives the plan the go ahead, the project could be completed in a matter of months.

OBJECTIONS OVER DEVELOPMENT PLN Objections over development Plans for a mixed use development in Pembroke have run into objections.

Two Rock Developments want to build a commercial, industrial site at Boss' Cove, with provision for six dwelling units.

But the plans have already been the subject of eight objections.

The Planning Department said the application, which was for approval in principle, had been processed but had not yet come before the Development Applications Board.

The land is zoned residential and woodland.

PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED ON CRIME PTL CRM Public meeting scheduled on crime Pembroke West MPs Gary Pitman and Erwin Adderley will be holding a public meeting today to address the problem of crime in the community.

The two UBP newcomers called the meeting after hearing numerous concerns from residents about drug dealing, noise and crime in general from residents.

They have now contacted representatives from the Police Task Force, several Parish constables and a Neighbourhood Watch Group, all of whom will be at the meeting, which will start at 7 p.m. at the T.S. Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps Headquarters on North Shore Road.

VISITORS' BACK PACK IS STOLEN CRM Visitors' back pack is stolen Visitors were again the victims of theft at a public beach on Sunday afternoon.

Police press officer Evelyn James Barnett reported that a German couple had their belongings stolen at around 12.30 p.m. while they swam at Horseshoe Beach.

The couple had left a black backpack containing sunglasses, watch, hotel keys and cash beside a large boulder on the eastern side of the beach. When they returned to the spot after swimming for an hour the back pack was gone.

POLICE ARREST TWO FOR SPEAR FISHING CRM Police arrest two for spear fishing Marine Police were alerted to an incident of alleged spear fishing in Bermuda waters.

Two men found snorkelling over reefs were arrested in Hogfish Boat channel after a Fisheries Warden informed Marine Police of the incident.

Two spears were later found on the sea bottom.

A 31-year-old Southampton man and 32-year-old Pembroke man were arrested.

Inquiries are continuing.

POLICE REPORT CASE OF THIEVING CRM Police report case of thieving Thieves made an untidy search of a store on Union Street, Pembroke, overnight on Sunday.

The owner found the office area insecure on Monday morning and the contents of a display cabinet thrown about the floor. A five-speed pedal cycle was stolen.
