Fashion gala features top designer Amsale
Tickets have gone on sale for next month's charity fashion gala featuring top New York designer Amsale.
An Evening of Glamour and Romance, organised by the Kardias Club of Bermuda, will take place on November 6 at the Southampton Princess Hotel.
Ethiopian-born Amsale Aberra, who is married to Bermudian Neil Brown, and her Fall/Holiday collection will be the star attractions of the stylish event.
Amsale's elegant gowns and bridal wear have been worn by the who's who of Hollywood and New York society.
The cocktail reception gets underway at 6.30 p.m. with Amsale's glamourous designs hitting the runway at 8.15 p.m.
Tickets for the fashionable event are $95 and are available from Opus Encore, located on Reid Street in Hamilton.
All proceeds will go to the local charity, Child's Wish, which attempts to grant wishes and acts in the benefit of children experiencing some catastrophic event, life threatening illness or ongoing medical challenge.
*** The Institute of Bermuda Architects will host its annual Sandcastle Competition next weekend.
The event, which is in its fourth year, will take place at Horseshoe Bay in Warwick on October 23.
The competition will be divided into five categories -- family, teenagers age 13-19, children under 12, adults/company and tourist/visitor.
Each team must consist of five people only, which may be entered in one category only. All sand castles will have to be completed by noon on a building lot area measuring 10 feet by 10 feet. Judging will begin at 4 p.m.
Anyone interested in entering should fill out an entry from and submit it to Nicky Gurret at the Department of Planning in the Government Administration Building on Parliament Street.
All proceed go to the IBA architecture scholarship fund.
*** The Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society presents `The Cherry Orchard' by Anton Chekhov, new English version by Jane McCulloch.
Ms McMulloch, who is the artistic director of the English Chamber theatre, will also direct the social comedy that borders on a farce.
The comedy will run from October 25 to the 30.
Tickets for the show will be available at the Daylesford Theatre from October 18 to 22 from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

*** The Bermuda National Trust will host Candlelit Musical Evenings at Verdmont Historic House next weekend.
Back by popular demand, the musical evenings will take place on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24 at 7.30 p.m.
Storyteller John Cox will present a light-hearted picture of eccentric characters of the millennium -- with musical support from a variety of local artists.

*** Parents who are planning to send their child to college in the near future will want to take advantage of an upcoming workshop.
Navigating the College Admissions Process is a free workshop which will help parents answer many pre-college questions like how they can help their child make the best decisions.
The event will feature Ron Ancrum, the coordinator of the annual local college fair, and Karen Mapp, president of the Institute for Responsive Education.
The workshop will take place on Thursday from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute auditorium.
All students and parents are welcomed to attend.
The guest speakers will also address students at CedarBridge Academy and Berkeley Institute, as well as conduct parent workshops, on October 12 and 13.
