has won a top award.

Mr. Ted Kleisner has been nominated 1993 Independent Hotelier of the World.

The annual award scheme is run by the industry's leading magazine Hotels .

And the winners are picked out by the magazine's readers.

Mr. Kleisner, featured in the November, 1993 edition of Hotels , managed the Southampton Princess during the 1980s.

He is now president and managing director of the 215-year-old Greenbrier resort, 250 miles southwest of Washington D.C. in West Virginia's Allegheny Mountains.

The 49-year-old, according to the magazine, "is responsible for maintaining Greenbrier and ensuring it meets the needs of people well into the 21st century.'' The skill with which he carries out the dual responsibility won him the award, adds the magazine.

"Ted is a hotelier's hotelier,'' 1990 award-winner Mr. Jack Vaughn is quoted as saying.

Mr. Kleisner is described as a go-getter and someone who recognises the importance of a happy staff.

The magazine stated that on joining Greebrier Mr. Kleisner studied photographs and biographies of the 1,600 employees so he knew them individually.

Later he even moved the upholstery and fabric shop from uncomfortably hot quarters to an air-conditioned building.

Since becoming manager of the Greenbrier in 1989, Mr. Kleisner has turned the shopping arcade into a $7 million-a-year business venture.

He has also set out to licence the Greenbrier name in Japan, and launch programmes to meet changing markets, says the magazine.
