the east end of the Island and see an exhibit which could possibly gain St.

George's world recognition.

The exhibit entitled "World Heritage and Bermuda -- the bid for the Historic Town of St. George and Related Fortifications'' toured the Island earlier this year but is now housed at Fort St. Catherine until December.

St. George's is pushing to become a United Nations Heritage Site and join more than 630 sites which already exist in 1,000 countries.

These sites are praised for their historic value and such a title could lead to better care and preservation for St. George's. The exhibit covers what World Heritage status is; Bermuda's application; examples of other heritage sites and how the designation has benefited them; how the designation will affect St. George's and Bermuda as a whole; and challenges and opportunities which may arise.

The exhibit is sponsored by the St. George's Foundation, the Bermuda National Trust, the Forts Division of Bermuda Parks Department, the Bermuda Department of Planning, the Bermuda Maritime Museum and the Corporation of St. George's.

Curator of Forts Lance Furbert said: "We are happy to be able to provide a suitable venue for displaying this important exhibit, and hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to visit.''
