Four hundred complete end to end walk
End-to-End charity walk managed to finish the 26-mile hike, which took walkers from King's Square, in St. George's, to Dockyard, in the West End.
The first person to finish was Ms Sharon Cook-Hoornweg, who took just four hours and 37 minutes, at a pace of a little over ten and a half minutes per mile. The last walker came in at 5.15 pm, more than nine hours after the start.
Champion fund-raiser for the event was Mr. Tom Lamont, a manager at the Bank of Butterfield, who raised $6,300.
Organisers expect to collect about $80,000 in total which will be handed over to the Fairhaven drug rehabilitation centre for women, the Sunshine League children's home, and the Bermuda Hospice Trust.
Mr. Paul Rowlerson, one of the walk organisers, said: "There were no major casualties during the event. Some people felt faint and there were a few blisters and sore limbs, but nothing serious.'' Conditions were ideal, with a breeze and a short, torrential downpour helping to keep walkers cool.
WALKING TALL -- A procession stretching as far as the eye can see snakes along Water Street in St. George's as walker's in Saturday's End-to-End charity hike set off on the 26-mile marathon.
