From the ocean to your table

effort of two commercial fishermen who have begun serving lunch and dinner this week at the Docksider Pub & Restaurant.

The menu is pretty straightforward -- fresh Bermuda seafood. Mr. Craigin Curtis and Mr. Nicky New began on Monday and word of mouth is spreading fast.

Coincidentally, they are just a block over from the Reid Street location of Locals Restaurant, where last year the family of commercial fisherman Mr.

Allan Bean went into business preparing the catch-of-the-day, bringing it completely from the ocean to the table.

Mr. Curtis said that after selling freshly-caught fish to restaurateurs in the East End, it was suggested by one of them that they provide the complete service themselves. The Hamilton location at the end of Front Street was convenient with the Docksider's upstairs kitchen.

He said, "We're selling fresh fish sandwiches, dinners, fresh lobster and tuna salads. We do other pub foods like burgers, too.

"But the fish is mostly freshly caught. The lobsters we buy from lobster fishermen for the lobster salad.'' Even with a take-out service and dine-in arrangements above the pub, the two men are having a go at operating it themselves, without the hiring of any one else. One will be out on the water, while the other is working in the restaurant.

Mr. Curtis is the skipper of the 35 foot commercial fishing vessel Barong. He works out of the south east end, trolling for wahoo, tuna and dolphin fish.

Mr. New has his own vessel, the 30-foot Trick Shot.

Mr. Curtis said, "Each of us will be fishing every other day and this time of the year, the fishing is great for wahoos and tunas. You could almost guarantee it.

"The lobster we get from lobster fishermen in St. George's.''
