`Get with the Programme' urges Council Trust
programme'' are popping up all over the Island.
The buttons and matching posters are part of a campaign designed to make people aware of the upcoming Council Partners Charitable Trust Telethon.
The Trust, which provides funding to six local agencies battling alcohol and other drug abuse, hopes the telethon will build awareness of the alcohol and drug abuse services available in Bermuda and increase public involvement.
Hosted by drug counsellor Austin Warner, the telethon will be held on September 14 on ZBM 9 or Cable 3 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
It will include a mix of mini-documentaries, live interviews, story telling, and entertainment.
"We all know someone who is impacted by substance abuse, Trust chairman Brian Duperreault said. "But do we know how to help? "There are solutions. And through the telethon, we are inviting people to become part of these solutions.'' "I highly recommend people tune in and find out how they can help turn someone's life around -- see how they can make a difference,'' Mr. Duperreault added. "Plus it will be a lot of fun.'' The Trust has not set a financial target for the telethon.
But anyone interested in helping spread the word about the event by distributing buttons or posters can contact the Trust office on 296-3130.
