Getting ready to debate
World Schools Debating Championships in Israel in January 1998, a formal debate will be held on Thursday, October 30 at 7.30 p.m.
The debate will take place in the Berkeley Institute Lecture Theatre and all judges are being asked to come armed with paper and pencil and use this as a dress rehearsal for the National Championships on November 29. Spectators are welcome.
*** Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society will have auditioning for the annual Christmas pantomime "Dick Whittington'' this Saturday and Sunday.
At Daylesford theatre, auditioning will take place from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Well known theatre director and teacher Jane McCulloch will arrive in Bermuda this week from England to direct the pantomime.
"Dick Whittington'' is a better known classic pantomime with all the useful music, dancing, lavish sets which will be designed by Elmer Midgett, and costumes. It is an evening for the whole family.
Non-members are welcome to audition. Adults only. Audition pieces are available at Daylesford weekdays after 5 p.m.
*** The popular investors radio show, sponsored by the Bermuda Stock Exchange (The BSX), is moving to an evening radio slot.
Beginning today, the radio show will air every Tuesday from 5.15 p.m. to 6.15 p.m. on ZFB 1230 AM. Investor's Radio Show host Fred Hassell will feature Sen.
E.T. (Bob) Richards, president of Bermuda Asset Management Ltd. (Invesco), as the show's first guest in the new time slot.
The radio show will be re-aired on Thursdays at 12.15 p.m. on ZFB 1230 AM. The show previously aired at 12.10 p.m. on Tuesdays. The new evening slot gives listeners the chance to hear the show while driving home from work.
The show began airing last July and aims to educate listeners on the benefits of investing.
"With the support of The BSX, we are trying to promote long-term investment, both in Bermuda and internationally,'' host Fred Hassell said.
He added: "The show attempts to highlight the benefits of stock ownership and encourages Bermudians to own a share of Bermuda.'' To date, Mr. Hassell has hosted guests such as Arthur Sculley, chairman of the BSX, David and Antoinette Bolden of the Emerald Financial Group, Andrew Doble of Ardent Investment, Anne Kast of Kast Investment Management Ltd., Carolyn Hall of Gulfstream Financial Limited, as well as a number of others from Bermuda's investment community.
