of research studying the extent of diabetes in Bermuda.

Forty golfers took part in the Ivan Swan Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament at the Ocean View course to raise money for the Bermuda Diabetes Association.

The tournament was set up four years ago by friends of the late Mr. Swan, whose wife Mrs. Sheila Swan and son Mr. Ivan Swan Jr. both suffer from diabetes. This was its fourth year and it raised $350.

President of the Diabetes Association, Mr. George Smith, said: "We are extremely grateful for the money raised by the tournament and pleased we were chosen as the recipients.'' The Association is trying to raise about $400,000 for the study, which it hopes to start later this year, and is about half way towards its target.
