Sound too good to be true? It is what The Royal Gazette's Newspapers In Education programme offers local teachers every Tuesday and Thursday during the school term.

Together with enough newspapers for each student in his classroom, the teacher is provided with classroom-ready materials on a variety of topics, requiring students to use a number of skills in real-life situations.

Periodic thematic supplements produced in partnership with local organisations like the Bermuda Biological Station for Research and the Bermuda National Gallery provide teachers with current, local material to supplement the broader curriculum and text books produced overseas.

The Royal Gazette has been operating its NIE programme for two and a half years, and it is now available to all public and private local schools.

This week the NIE programme is extended to the newspaper itself with a series of features focusing on various aspects of the performing arts, starting with choral music.

The Bermuda Festival offers a unique opportunity for students to see world-class performers at a reasonable price, and the NIE articles are intended to prepare them for these performances.

This educational series printed in the newspaper itself makes NIE material available to all students and their parents, not just those enrolled in the NIE programme through their schools.

If you wish to learn more about The Royal Gazette's NIE programme, contact Jennifer Ingham at 295-5881 or email at nie ygazette.newsmedia.bm.
