If you're looking for a place that offers a choice of either an intimate or casual dining experience, The Porch Restaurant and Bar/The 93 Front Street

Overlooking Hamilton Harbour, in the old Rum Runner's location, is The Porch Restaurant that caters to the more casually dressed crowd.

This restaurant aims more to Bermuda's visitors offering a more traditional pub fare.

Diners on the Porch can enjoy the taste of fish 'n chips, hamburgers, salads and different types of sandwiches that cannot be found elsewhere in Bermuda, such as a grilled avocado with Swiss cheese.

This restaurant, which seats up to 46 people, also serves special cocktail drinks that can put that certain zip into your day.

The menu differs every three months offering only the freshest meats, vegetables and fruits.

Vegetarians can also satisfy their appetite with a grilled vegetable platter, a black bean salad or curried vegetables with a blend of rices specially prepared by The Porch.

They also offer various fat-free dishes for those who are watching their weight.

"The main selling point is the view of the harbour. Even when it rains, we can still use the Porch restaurant,'' owner Mr. David Speakman said.

People who chose to dine on The Porch can also enjoy the upbeat sounds of a little calypso and jazz music while they eat.

In the same building, just at the back of The Porch Restaurant, surrounded in cedar, is the 93 Front Street Grill which caters to those who prefer a more cozy and intimate atmosphere.

Appropriately opened on February 14, this restaurant offers the more elegant dining setting.

In the dimly-lit dining room which soft jazz and candle light filters through, diners can enjoy quiet conversation and an affordable, but elegant meal.

The Grill aims more at the locals as it was created to get people who want a good meal to come out and not spend a lot of money.

It seats up to 44 people and reservations are required.

The Grill's menu also changes every three months, offering an array of unique dishes such as Potato Latkes and Coconut shrimp.

"We also make our own stocks and soups,'' Mr. Speakman said.

He added that the menu in the Grill was more sophisticated.

"In the summer time, we hope to have things like steamed craw fish,'' he said. "We offer good wines for inexpensive prices. And so far people seem to be quite pleased with the prices of foods and beverages.

"Two people can have dinner, wine and desert in the Grill and leave saving about $15 - $20.'' Diners in this restaurant are treated to more intimate conversational jazz music.

Mr. Speakman added that the Grill was easy to promote because of its cedar interior.

"Bermudians love cedar work, and the room looks really good when the lights are down and the candles are lit,'' he said. "It gives a nice ambiance.'' He said the Grill can also be used for conventions or groups for breakfast or lunch meetings.
