Pari Farshi and local artist Proctor Martin in the Edinburgh Gallery at City Hall.

Ms Farshi, a British citizen, was educated in both her native Iran and Britain. She attended art college in Tehran, and continued her studies and painting at the Aberdeen Art School.

Her talent was recognised at a very early age, and she sold her first canvas when she was ten. Whilst at Aberdeen she took first prize in a watercolour competition.

Greatly influenced by the masters of Impressionisn, Ms Farshi has a uniquely executed style. Her work covers a diverse range of subjects ranging from portraits to landscapes and still life. She uses varied media, including oil on board and watercolour, as well as the demanding and problematical techniques of coloured enamel on copper.

Ms Farshi is an experienced exhibitor. Among the British galleries in which her art has been shown are the Royal Academy of Art, The Mall Galleries (RBA), Ann Balion Private Galleries, the Royal Cornwall Museum and the Laing Art Exhibition. She has also exhibited in Dallas, Texas; Malaysia and Dubai, as well as at the Bermuda Society of Arts.

Irish born Bermuda resident Mr. Martin is a familiar exhibitor on the local art scene. The retired chartered town planner and graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Fine Arts maintains a studio at his Warwick residence, in addition to which he provides coaching and undertakes commissions by appointment. He has participated in workshops in North America and the United Kingdom.

A leisure painter throughout his professional career, Mr. Martin became a full time artist, primarily in watercolours and mixed media, in 1993. In 1996 he added the use of texture, particularly in oil pastel, to the range of his impressionistic abstracts. He believes that each painting must contain a little magic, made possible by the manipulation of the medium.

The Farshi-Martin exhibition will continue through April 26. For further information 292-3824.
