Join the `celebrity' End-to-End walkers

Fifteen well-known local faces will lead teams of friends and colleagues on a celebrity relay during the End-to-End walk on May 5.

Event organisers contacted Garry Madeiros to collect a cast of local personalities to add "pizzazz and excitement'' to the annual event.

Mr. Madeiros said everyone he called was anxious to join the effort and would "bring their own flare'' to the walk.

Celebrities include Works and Engineering Minister Alex Scott and former UBP MP Gerald Simons.

Chairman of the End-to-End committee, Paul Rowlerson, said: "Each community leader, with their own team of supporters and friends, will walk a portion of the course and hand over to the next participant.

"There will be an award of a glass crystal bowl to the community leader showing the most spirit and enthusiasm.'' He admitted the exact criteria had yet to be established because the celebrity walk was meant to be fun and fresh.

He jokingly called the celebrity walkers, the "less-fit category''.

The walk is split into 15 segments, beginning in St. George's with Stanley Wright followed by Eugene Bean.

Following in order along the length of the Island will be Muriel Richardson, Gerald Simons, Scott Carswell, Henry Smith, Nancy Gosling, Brian Duperreault, Walton Brown, Tony Knapp, Garry Madeiros, Alex Scott, Paul Halmers, Eddie Saints and Cheryl-Ann Lister.

Proceeds will go to charities, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Women's Resource Centre, The Resident/Family Council and the Father's Resource Centre.

Pledge sheets can be picked up from any of the Esso stations, Bank of Bermuda offices, BTC head office or sports stores.

Walkers can pre-register on May 2 from 5 p.m. onward at the Chamber of Commerce or register on Saturday, May 5 in St. George's for the End-to-End, or at Albouy's Point for the Middle-to-End walk.
