the environmental group into a new direction.

"We have taken the initiative to go proactive,'' KBB administrator and project co-ordinator Lennox Boodram told The Royal Gazette .

Inside headquarters in Bermuda House Lane, Hamilton, the enthusiastic campaigner compiles extensive databases of past garbage pick-ups and manages pools of available volunteers.

And he said the new position would allow the KBB to adopt a central role in protecting the environment by targeting litter before it becomes a problem.

The three R's of "reduce, reuse and recycle'' will remain, but Mr. Boodram said he hopes to eventually focus more on teaching reduction skills.

"If we attack the reduce factor first, then obviously it's going to have a trickle down affect,'' he said. Education will be one of the key elements the organisation will tackle.

Mr. Boodram has already formed a partnership with schools to promote service learning through community awareness and maintenance.

Mr. Boodram said he hoped the KBB's efforts will create a new generation of young adults -- the "Re-Generation''.

But he pointed out that the KBB always needs young and old volunteers alike to help maintain the Island's beauty.

For example, anyone with people, organisation or computer skills were all welcome, he said.

"Keep Bermuda Beautiful is not just a slogan,'' he said. "It's a commitment.'' ECO-WARRIOR -- Lennox Boodram takes charge as the new full-time administrator and project co-ordinator for Keep Bermuda Beautiful.
