Musical bonanza at City Hall for BPWA fundraiser
will fill the auditorium.
The source of this musical extravaganza is the Pre-Heritage Month Music Festival being staged by the Business and Professional Women's Association as its annual Heritage Month, cultural contribution and major fundraiser for scholarships.
Some of Bermuda's leading professional performers of jazz, classical and gospel music will be featured at the festival.
Tonight the "high-fever'' jazz quintet and winners of several annual "Best of Bermuda Gold Awards,'' Jaz, will perform.
The group, including saxophonist Mr. Jade Minors, keyboard player and vocalist Mr. Erskine Phillips, guitarist Mr. Dayton Wharton, bassist Mr. Leroy Burgess and drummer Mr. Michael Stowe, play regularly at Hubie's Bar on Angle Street and at the Ambassadors Club on Reid Street.
Tomorrow night's festival treat will be a classical concert by the faculty artists of the Dunbarton School of Music.
Youthful virtuoso Mr. Hywell Brown, who counts piano, violin, and clarinet among his instruments, will also appear.
Local gospel groups Word, Destiny, In His Image, and the Chorale Dynamics will perform Saturday night.
Special guest artists will be noted gospel singer Grace Darey-Landy, a newcomer to Bermuda.
Mrs. Darey-Landy, who comes from Atlanta, Georgia, is a professional gospel singer who has toured throughout the United States and Canada, thrilling audiences with her rich mezzo-soprano voice.
Bermudians musicians Mr. Winston DeGraff and Mr. Shine Hayward will lend the magic of their instruments to the evening.
And 12-year-old saxophonists Devuan DeGraff and Nevin Williams will make a special appearance on Saturday evening.
Tickets for the festival -- under the distinguished patronage of Community and Cultural Affairs Minister the Hon. Wayne Furbert and Mrs. Furbert, are $15.
They can be purchased in advance from 27th Century Boutique on Burnaby Street and the Harbour Master in the Washington Mall.
Tickets are also available at the City Hall Box Office tomorrow and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
