The only thing hard in a new nightclub opening up on Par-La-Ville Road will be the music.

Unlike other night clubs in Bermuda, The Escape will not be selling alcohol.

The principals hope patrons will instead be willing to pay a membership fee to come and dance all night long fuelled by only soft drinks. The Escape opens next month in the basement of the same building as M.R. Onions.

Not having a liquor licence allows the owners to keep the club open past the 3 a.m. deadline for those serving alcohol. The club will also cater to all ages.

Paul DeCouto, the principal behind Cycle Care Repair on Cemetery Road, will own and operate the club along with his sister Sharon DeCouto and Kevin Sousa.

Mr. DeCouto said the club will cater to those who like House and Techno, particular styles of electronic dance music popular with youth. Mr. Sousa will be the regular disc jockey for The Escape. The three are teetotallers.

Mr. DeCouto said the new venture will be open to the younger patrons only in the early evening. A second later all-night session will cater to adults only.

The group plan on having security in place to conduct body checks for concealed weapons, alcohol or drugs.

"We want a place where people can have fun,'' Mr. DeCouto said.

The club, which will start in mid-February, will be open to the public for the first few weeks after which memberships will be sold.
