The annual awards are open to reporters, assistant editors and sub-editors of The Royal Gazette and the Mid-Ocean News , who compete for first and second places in five categories.

Winners are as follows: News Story First Place: Rebecca Zuill of the Mid-Ocean News for her stories on Government's attempts to persuade businesses to fund the purchase of Cragmore for the Ministry of Tourism headquarters.

Second Place: Tim Greenfield of The Royal Gazette for his stories on then Environment Minister Arthur Hodgson lifting a stop order on construction of a house belonging to Transport Minister Ewart Brown.

News Feature First Place: Matthew Taylor, for his Royal Gazette series on "Homeless for Christmas''.

Second Place: Nancy Acton of The Royal Gazette for her profile of Polly Lamb.

Newspaper Design First Place: Kyle Hunter, then of The Royal Gazette for his "Peanuts'' page on the day that Peanuts creator Charles Schulz died.

Second place: David Skinner of The Royal Gazette for his photo essay page "Walk on the Wild Side''.

Magazine Writing: First Place: Patricia Calnan for "Flight Plan'' which appeared in The Bottom Line .

Second Place: Roger Crombie for "View from the Top'', which also appeared in The Bottom Line .

Photography: First Place: Arthur Bean for his Royal Gazette photograph of Second World war detainee Charles Kopel on his return to Fort Cunningham.

Second place: David Skinner for his Royal Gazette photograph of fishermen being arrested on suspicion of using illegal fishpots.

The Ridgway Awards are named for the late Commander Guy Ridgway who was for many years a director of the board of the Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd., the parent company of The Royal Gazette and the Mid-Ocean News.
