Nigel Freeman did well to hold second seed Richard Black to a draw, as this year's Canada Dry Tournament got under way last week.
Having grandmaster David Norwood as a house guest for the previous two weeks obviously sharpened up Freeman's game nicely.
In other encounters, Frank Ming, Dave Arorash, Shimon Alkon and Donald Dillas all gave their higher-rated opponents tough games before eventually succumbing.
Last week's results: Richard Farleigh 1, Noel Trott 0; Nigel Freeman 1 , Richard Black 1 ; Phil Shadick 1, Frank Ming 0; David Arorash 0, Brian Stephenson 1; Nigel Chudleigh 1, Shimon Alkon 0; C.Williams 0, R.Swift 1; B.Bagley 1, Kennedy Simmons 0; Donald Dillas 0, George Ben 1.
Tonight's pairings: Swift v Farleigh; Stephenson v Chudleigh; Ben v Shadick; Black v Bagley; Trott v Williams; Simmons v Arorash; Ming v Dillas.
