Photographers get in the frame
member photographic exhibition of new work this month.
The free exhibition will feature the work of BPPA members Stephen Raynor, Mark Emerson, Shorty Trimingham, Ann Spurling, Bruno Zupp, Roland Skinner, James Cooper and Lloyd Webb.
Photographs from Graeme Outerbridge, Ian MacDonald Smith, Scott Stallard and Antoine Hunt will also be displayed during the month-long exhibition at the West Exhibition room at the City Hall in Hamilton.
The May 6 to May 26 exhibition will be open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Spectators will be able to purchase the work on display. Proceeds will go to the BPPA general fund and the photographers plus a percentage of the sale will go to the Bermuda Society of Arts.
*** To mark Asthma Awareness Day the Bermuda Asthma & Allergy Support Group Charity will be hosting a free Asthma Awareness Evening Workshop on Friday.
The 6 to 10 p.m. event will be opened by Health Minister Nelson Bascome and will feature discussions of issues like asthma statistics, asthma management, medication and the new Asthma Education Centre at the hospital.
Light refreshments will be served at the workshop which will be held in the Salvation Army Young People's Hall on 10 North Street in Hamilton. The Hall is located across the street from Dellwood School. For more information 292-9258.
*** The Bermuda Botanical Society would like to advise the public that the Botanical Gardens' Visitors Centre, Gift and Snack Shop will be open Monday through Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.
The Society will host tours of the gardens on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10.30 a.m. The tours will leave from the carpark in from of the Visitors Centre.
*** Tickets are now on sale for the Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society's production `The Hot Mikado'.
Adapted and arranged by Ron Bowman, with book and lyrics by David H. Bell, `The Hot Mikado' will begin its 9-night run at the City Hall Theatre on May 11.
Tickets for the show are available at the Daylesford Theatre May 1 to 5 and May 8 to 10 from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. On Saturday, May 6, tickets can be purchased between noon and 2 p.m. at the Daylesford Theatre.
The $30 tickets can also be purchased on the night of the performances, one hour before the curtain go up at 8 p.m. at the City Hall.
*** Bermuda Riding for the Disabled will host a Denim and Diamonds gala this weekend.
Under the distinguished patronage of the acting Governor Tim Gurney and Mrs.
Gurney the charity will host its first fund-raising evening under tents in the main ring of the Bermuda Riding for the Disabled, Windreach Recreational Village.
Saturday's soiree will begin with cocktails at 7 p.m., followed by a riding demonstration at 7.45 p.m. and dinner served at 8 p.m. The evening will close with dancing.

*** The Bermuda Rose Society's Annual Rose Show will take place this Friday at the Botanical Gardens.
An array of cut roses and rose arrangements will be on display in Horticultural hall from 1 to 2 p.m.
Admission is free and everyone is welcomed.
*** The enviro-cultural group Rock Ramblers will hold an open-ended, informal ramble/picnic this Sunday.
The 2 mile East End ramble will begin at 9 a.m. sharp from the Ferry Point Park in Ferry Reach, St. George's.
Organisers recommend participants wear functional walking shoes and bring snack food, a beverage and a small garbage bag for trash en route.
Each ramble benefits a different environmental /cultural /service organisation and Sunday's ramble will benefit Amnesty International Bermuda (Women and Children's Group). A voluntary contribution of $3 will be gratefully accepted.
