Bermuda-based Medjugorje Peace Plan is planning to send a container of aid to Haiti next February in its latest bid to help disadvantaged people.

But the group is urging people to donate now -- and wants food and clothes which are needed in Haiti.

"I'm hoping people will put summer clothing aside and bring it to me and I am also hoping that we can encourage people to buy food in bulk from warehouses,'' said Lucy Willitts, the group's president.

People can bring clothes to the Peace Plan warehouse on the old Naval Air Station and if they buy food -- particularly items such as rice and flour -- from warehouses the Peace Plan will pick it up.

"If people tell the warehouse that it is for us, it can be stored and we will pick it up later,'' added Mrs. Willitts.

"I did some work in India and heard about the conditions in Haiti and how bad it is there. If someone were to peel an orange and throw the peel away, someone would be there to pick up the peel and eat it.

"We have done ten containers for Bosnia and although we will not forget Bosnia we wanted to spread out. This is the ultimate dream, to be a relief warehouse.'' People can drop off clothes at the Peace Plan warehouse on the first Saturday of every month.

The donations will go to Haiti via Miami and will be distributed by the Food for the Poor organisation.
