Island's geriatric aides on Thursday night.

And at the first ever awards presentation for aides, organised by Dauline Bean, certificates were given to aides who had selflessly tended to the needs of the Island's seniors.

The sentiments of Ms Bean were summed up in a short passage read by chairwoman Ronnelle Paris who read: "A wise person once wrote: `we make a living by what we get and make a life by what we give''.

"This evening we come together to acknowledge those kind hearted individuals who make a life by giving. The geriatric profession is one that tends to be forgotten at times in this community, but tonight through this awards ceremony, we hope to remind the community about the important role those in Geriatrics play in the community. "Also the aim is to show an appreciation for the sacrifice that the care givers make throughout a daily basis. Truly they are the unsung heroes and heroines.'' Speakers included Dr. Eva Hodgson, as well as Claudette Flemming and Ivena Laurenceo.
