Quilters have things all patched up!

"How To Make An American Quilt,'' quilting has suddenly become very timely -- and Bermuda is not immune.

Last week, the Bermuda Quilters Guild announced that it will be raffling a queen-sized quilt, at $2 a ticket, during its Patchwork and Quilt Show at Verdmont next week.

The Quilt Show, which has an adult admission price of $5 and will also include a craft sale, has been scheduled for October 20 to 22.

Part of the proceeds from the raffle will go to the Women's Resource Centre.

*** Further on annual events, the Patients' Assistance League and Service will be holding its yearly fair at Christ Church in Devonshire on November 4.

In anticipation of that event, the cancer support group has said that it would appreciate any contributions to its white elephant stall that the public would like to make.

Anyone, consequently, who has an item to donate to PALS can do so by calling 292-3875 every weekday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

*** Slated for the second Thursday of every month, the Devonshire Meals on Wheels Luncheon Club will begin services for the parish's residents with a noon-time meal this Thursday.

Costing $3 per person, the meal will be served at the New Devonshire Church Hall on Middle Road at 12 p.m.

More information can be had by calling Mrs. Olga Jacobs at 292-5088 or Mrs.

Clarine Harris at 236-2879.

In neighbouring Paget, meanwhile, the lunch that had been planned by the Paget Meals on Wheels Luncheon Club has been cancelled for October.

The next luncheon will be held in St. Paul's Christian Education Centre at 12.30 p.m. on November 2.

*** A new executive committee, consisting of six members, was elected by the Devonshire Colts Soccer Club during its annual general meeting in the Bermuda Industrial Union Building on September 28.

The new president of the club is Ms Sonia Holder and the new vice-president is Mr. Vance Campbell.

Other new committee members include treasurer Mr. Andre S. Thomas, assistant treasurer Mr. Stephan Dupres, secretary Mr. Stanford Bean and assistant secretary Mr. Shannon Burgess.

*** In a case of "hair today, gone tomorrow,'' 15 regulars of the Docksiders tavern in Hamilton will be shaving their heads for charity on October 21.

For an admission fee of $5 per person, patrons at the Front Street watering hole that night will also be able to catch sultry-voiced VSB DJ "Sasha'' have a different body part go under the clippers -- her legs.

"I decided,'' Sasha told Community recently, "to really get into the spirit of things.'' All of the proceeds from the event will go to Hope Homes.
