Rockin' at St. David's on Saturday night!
concert at St. David's Cricket Club on Saturday night. The concert will also feature local band Legacy and gates will open at 7.00 for the 9.00 start.
Founded in 1986 by keyboardist George Jones, Square One is one of the top Caribbean bands. The band consists of drummer Winston Beckles, bass rhythm guitarist Paul Slater, percussionist Terry Arthur and vocalists Alison Hinds, Andy Armstrong -- who also plays lead guitar -- and Cecil Riley. Square One released its first breakout album entitled `Four Sides' in 1996 and received critical acclaim for the song `Ragga Muffin'. The group followed that album with its 1997 record `Sweetness' which remains a bestseller three years after its release. One year later the album `Full Bloom' was released and included songs that went to the top of the charts throughout the Caribbean, in addition to receiving air time in North America and Europe. The band's latest album release `Fast Forward' hit shelves in 1999 and is still a chart-topper. "Not only is Square One a great band, they are also a reflection of the unique Caribbean culture and heritage,'' said Andrew Vaucrosson, VP Marketing at Capital G, the local agent for Western Union, the sponsors of the tour.
"Western Union is honoured to be a part of this tour, showcasing the band's talents and spreading Caribbean music throughout the world.'' The second annual Square One concert is being promoted by Sound Concepts Ltd, a wholly Bermudian owned company that provides sound reinforcement services to the local community. Tickets are $35 in advance from Sound Concepts or $50 at the gate. Sound Concepts has done most of the larger concerts in Bermuda in recent years, including Byron Lee, Cleo Laine, Third World, Beenie Man, Culturefest, Temptations and others.
