People in Bermuda were not alone in witnessing the breathtaking performance by the national team in their World Cup match against El Salvador at National Stadium on Sunday.

It was beamed to nine other countries including the US, Canada, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Jamaica and Antigua.

Bermuda's goalscorer Kyle Lightbourne has become a name to watch in more countries than Bermuda and a marked man in San Salvador, Kingston and Vancouver, venues for the national team's three second round away matches.

Using Cable and Wireless facilities, Bermuda Broadcasting was able to beam the match by satellite to the other interested countries.

Mr. Rick Richardson, who provided match commentary, said: "It is the first time we have presented something live outside of Bermuda.'' The television company used three cameras at the game to provide extensive coverage of the 1-0 victory.

During a post mortem into the game's coverage, officials of Bermuda Broadcasting were encouraged by the comments from local people.

Mr. Richardson admitted that there had been problems with sound in other countries and getting the team sheet early enough to get the team lists on screen.

He said: "The reception apparently was very good but we need to speak to the BFA about getting things earlier. They have to see that we are now dealing with a global event. We have to meet the high requirements that are normal for international matches. We need to work closely together.

"It was our first attempt so we can now be better prepared for the Jamaican game on Sunday.'' Mr. Richardson said that he was delighted to have been involved in the event especially as Bermuda won.
