Soft drink can marks centennial
Saturday and John Barritt and Son Ltd. is helping to mark this special occasion by issuing a limited edition fundraising soft drink can.
The company has been in business since 1874 and John Barritt was the treasurer of the Berkeley Educational Society in 1897 when the Berkeley Institute was founded.
Consumers are invited to purchase these special Berkeley Institute Centenary cans and each time one is purchased John Barritt and Son Ltd. will make a donation to the fund.
"We hope to raise nearly $1,000 via the sales of these special commemorative cans,'' soft drink sales manager Bruce Barritt said.
He added: "We worked closely with American National Can, our can manufacturer, and the Berkeley Centenary Committee on the artwork and layout for this special commemorative can.'' Only a limited number of these cans will be available so Berkeleyites and interested members of the public should purchase them as soon as possible.
"We felt it was important to continue the work started by our ancestor, John Barritt, in support of education,'' Mr. Barritt said.
He added: "It is especially pleasing to be able to assist the Berkeley Institute in its centenary year as John Barritt was so involved in the founding of Berkeley in 1897. Our company values our association with the school and with the entire education system in Bermuda. we recognise Bermuda's future leaders are the young people of today and we are ready to work with any school in Bermuda.''
