Headlining the live entertainment are three artists from Jamaica; newest singing sensation, Satellite; Stone Love, and world clash champions Body Guard. Joining them will be Bermuda's own Magnum Force.

Satellite is described as having "the closest voice to hearing the late Garnett Silk again'', while Body Guard, which was formed and owned by Big Mac and Courtney over 20 years ago in Maypen, Jamaica, has Johnny Guard as its main selector. The group have been World Clash Champions twice, and are always favourites with the Bermuda crowd.

Magnum Force, a popular local sound system in the late 1980s, is seeking once again to re-establish itself on the Bermuda damce hall scene.

Known for its superior playing quality and impressive bass power, it won many clashes in the early '80s and '90s.

Founded by Norman Godwin, Magnum Force's new members are Rampaul, regarded by many as one of the best up-and-coming selectors around; Kirk, a selector and good mike man; "Flower'', deemed an "explosive'' mike man; Andre, a CD man, and Kuane and Jamie, who are on the management team.

Magnum Force will be heading to Jamaica in July to play with Stone Love, Echo Stone and Body Guard.

Tickets for Saturday night's dance hall are $25, part proceeds of which will be donated to charity.

The event is being promoted by M.F. Productions and sponsors include the Jamaican Association, Fast Forward Freight, the Jamaican Grill and Bacardi Ltd.

Nuff Tape will donate a prize. Security will be provided by the Bermuda Regiment. For further information telephone 799-0731.

As part of the Fringe Festival linked to Bermuda Festival, the Bermuda School of Music is holding a `Celebration' concert on January 20 to mark the merger of the Bermuda Academy of Music and the Bermuda Conservatory of Music.

The programme will showcase the talents of the music school faculty, who are not only teachers but performers, and hail from many lands.

Joining them will be local artists, and the programme will feature works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Piazzolla, Dowland, Debussy and Copland, as well as compositions by faculty members Tatiana Dran and Vic Glazer.

Principal John Skinner promises that, because the musicians represent `a diverse array of musical experiences and traditions', the performance will be "very exciting, something to delight everyone.'' The concert will be held in the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts. Show time is 8 p.m., and tickets (patrons $40, adults $20, students/seniors $10) are now available at Opus Encore, Pianos Plus, Meyer Travel and the Bermuda School of Music on Trott Road.

Shapes and Shadows is the name of the Bermuda Art Centre at Dockyard's first exhibition of the new year. It is a juried show in which the artists explore positive and negative space, light and dark, abstraction, volume, form and tone.

In anticipation of the February show, Wavelengths, where visual art meets the written word, a workshop is being held this month to prepare writers. For further information telephone 22234-2809. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
