Summer day camps `keep it natural'
annual Summer Day Camps during the month of July and August.
The goals of the Summer Day Camp Programme are: To provide child care services at an affordable price; To offer a range of activities and experiences to provide the children with choices; and To reduce the number of children that are unsupervised and inactive during their summer vacation.
This year's theme is "Keeping it natural with Bermuda and its people.'' Mrs. Dorothy Trott, Director Summer Camp Programme, advises the objectives will be, "To help children be more cognisant of their homeland and its people and to expose them to various people and their culture. The children will have learning experiences while participating in the various activities related to each culture.'' This year Mrs. Mary Winchell of the Bermuda Aquarium will provide education talks, tours while Mr. Craig Burt and Lance Furbert of the Ministry's Parks Division will arrange tours of Bermuda's parks and forts.
"Our philosophy is to offer wholesome activities such as tennis, bowling, and swimming. This year new activities will include miniature golf at the Golf Academy, bumper boats at the Cocamo Ltd. in Warwick and snorkelling at the Snorkel Parks in Dockyard,'' Mrs. Trott said.
The Summer Day Camp staff will be responsible for children who have completed year one in Primary School up to children who have just completed Primary Six.
Four additional camps will be offered for Middle School Children during the summer months.
The specific summer camp schedule is not complete at this time. Please direct questions to Mrs. Dorothy Trott at 299-0859.
