Surf & Turf equipment up for auction
block today.
All furniture, fixtures and fittings as well as the Reid Street business's bar can be previewed at its The Stables location at 10.30 a.m. before going under the hammer at 11 a.m.
Co-owner Mr. Ralph Saints said there was some outside interest in taking over the business but definite agreements could not be reached.
"We had a couple of offers but they fell through,'' said Mr. Saints, also president of food importer Atlantic Forwarders.
"The Surf & Turf Restaurant just was not viable. It just never took off,'' said Mr. Saints, co-owner with Mr. Franz Egenolf, on why they closed the operation.
The restaurant's last day of business was May 27 after commencing operations last November.
"Sales were atrocious,'' he said of the final days of operation.
But Mr. Saints said they did receive positive feedback from patrons and he was hesitant to blame the closure on the recession.
Owners chose to create the seafood and steak restaurant after moving their existing Pizza House operation from the Reid Street location to Parson's Road where it would concentrate on take-out and pickup orders.
Pizza House did most of its business through take out and pick up orders while sit down business, discontinued with the move, represented a small portion of sales.
Mr. Benjamin Rego will act as auctioneer for the Surf & Turf items.
Many of the items up for auction are "fairly new'', said Mr. Rego.
