The Water Front Tavern is making a big splash in St. George's -- Mr.
these days. His restaurants can satisfy your craving for succulent seafood, German and Italian dishes. Afternoon tea is served too. By Beverley Causey-Smith The very cordial restaurateur, Gunter Fischbacher, has opened a delightful restaurant harbour side on St. George's wharf, the new Water Front Tavern .
"We have been in business about three months and the summer has been very good for us,'' explained Mr. Fischbacher with a broad smile.
You can sit outdoors under the blue and white umbrellas or under the verandah and catch the refreshing sea breezes while enjoying some of the best international food and drink in the old town at fair prices.
The sound of the sea splashing gently against the wharf and the occasional yacht is most relaxing. You also get a good view of Ordnance Island and the cruise ship when it is anchored there.
It is a superb stop for lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner and Mr. Fischbacher says they aim for a pleasant family atmosphere with menus for children too.
You can have a casual dining experience, with attentive service, and enjoy time with your children and mother-in-law and everyone will be pleased! Mr. Fischbacher also runs a very successful restaurant in Hamilton, called, `Fisch's Place. His career has been the restaurant business and he is successful in his endeavours.
One of the reasons for his popularity is his great sense of humour and enthusiasm. Everyone agrees that he is a charming and witty fellow but most importantly, he knows how to serve delicious cuisine at fair Bermuda prices.
"When I was a young boy in Austria, my family was in the hotel and restaurant business. When I played tennis and soccer my friends called me `Fisch', pronounced just like the English word, fish. It has stuck with me and that's why I named the other restaurant after me,'' he cheerfully explained.
They have a contingent of qualified international and local chefs and wait staff who know what is most popular and they know how to present the appetising food and beverages.
"Our pizzas are wonderful and the kids love them! We offer take out pizza too. People tell us all the time that we have the best pizza in St. George's.
Our fresh fish, such as wahoo, tuna and snapper, bought from local fishermen, is very popular day and night.
"Our German dishes are popular at lunch and in the evening. People like the Wiener schnitzel with French fries and grilled tomato for under $18.'' "You can't beat our lobster special. You start with Bermuda fish chowder or Caesar salad followed by succulent half stuffed, broiled lobster served with baked potatoes, vegetable and drawn butter. After your feast, you finish the meal off with chocolate mousse or strawberry cheese cake with coffee or tea all for $30.50 per person.
"We also offer lobster specials in the Hamilton restaurant too, `Fisch's Place, quietly located on 22 Richmond Road in the Mariner's Club,'' he said.
They also serve Lobster Thermidor with diced lobster meat in a mushroom-Brandy sauce, served in the half shell topped with Hollandaise Sauce baked golden brown served with rice and vegetable for $31.75. Curried lobster, Surf and Turf and Surf and Surf are available also.
"It is advised to book dinner reservations in advance,'' Mr. Fischbacher said.
A full bar is open and you can enjoy a toast with their fine house wines, order a fancy cocktail or choose a cold one from their great selection of European beer such as Gosser and Weiss beer or Schnapps.
The Water Front Tavern seats about 220 people and the inside has the English pub atmosphere with lots of wood against pastel shades of peach. The wooden chairs and tables and wooden floor give it a warm homey feel.
On October 6 they are coming out with a true Austrian Oktoberfeast with dishes like Fest Bratwurst, special made German sausage with sauer-kraut and mashed potatoes and fried onions. The food is being specially flown in from Europe.
"We are quite excited about our Halloween Party on October 28 from 10 p.m.
until 3 a.m. We will host live entertainment, door prizes, best costume award and the entrance fee will be ten dollars per person. The first drink will be free and there will be a grouping of free finger foods,'' Mr. Fischbacher said.
Before you know it Christmas will be here and both restaurants are accepting bookings for parties and holiday celebrations.
Additionally, they do catering all around Bermuda and have numerous Christmas menus worked out for the most elegant of meals. To avoid disappointment for these services it is best to reserve now.
