Trying to find Bermuda's best mom
Judges are wading through 250 letters from primary school children, to make it a special Mother's Day for one Bermuda parent.
Youngsters between the ages of five and 10 were asked to write a letter saying why their mother should be voted best.
And the official announcement will be made at an awards lunch at the Belmont Hotel on Mother's Day, May 10.
Co-organiser Marilyn Simmons, of the Continental Society of Bermuda, said the competition was thriving in its 29th year.
She added: "Children in all the Island's primary schools were asked to take part.
"All the entries are in now and it's time for the judges to make up their minds.'' She said this year's awards ceremony had been switched back to a lunchtime event after the 1997 winner was announced at a garden party at Chelston -- the US Consul's residence -- the day before Mother's Day.
"We're going back to Mother's Day itself by popular demand,'' she added.
"It's a wonderful event and it will make one mom very proud.'' Last year's winner was 57-year-old Joyce Dyce, nominated by daughter Melisa.
The runner-up was a man, widower Michael Faries, nominated by son Phillip.
This year's award winners will be announced at the 1 p.m. ceremony a week on Sunday.
Tickets at $35 are still available from Continental Society members D. Eve (236 3317) and R. Woolridge (295 4301).
