``Unique 2''.
Blonde-haired Heidi Pfau fronts the Austrian band which has taken the country by storm with its first single "Loveline.'' The record has already sold 25,000 copies to reach the rare gold disc status in Austria and earn the group's video an appearance on Euro MTV.
In the video, recorded in London, Heidi appears as a mermaid using the telephone "Loveline'' on a seabed of pearls.
The hit song has also boosted their album "Internity'' which is being promoted across the whole of Europe.
Heidi, better known in Austria by her stage name, Jade Davies, is keeping her feet firmly on the ground despite her recent rise to stardom, according to her mother Mrs. Margaret Pfau.
"Heidi is just a normal girl,'' said Mrs. Pfau. "She has not changed because of this. She is still the same as she always was.'' The multi-lingual 20-year-old lives with her mother and father, Peter Pfau, in Vienna, but her grandparents Mr. Eugene and Mrs. Hilde Doughty still live in Somerset.
Heidi was born in Bermuda in March 1974. Christened at St. Anthony's Church in Warwick, she later attended St. Anne's Nursery School and Port Royal Primary School, before leaving for Vienna in 1982 with her parents.
In 1984 the family moved to South Africa for six years before returning to Vienna where Heidi attended the Technical School for Economics and where she is now studying advanced `A' level courses.
In South Africa she studied dramatic art, acting, art and language as well as completing a survival training course. She speaks German, English, some French, Afrikaans and Zulu.
After starting her stage career in school plays such as "Oliver'' and "The King And I'' her big break came during a karaoke contest. Heidi placed second in the Austrian karaoke finals.
She started her pop career as a solo singer in the band Sunrise before the formation of Unique 2.
On contract to to Sony Music, the band's major success came with "Loveline'' which stayed in the Austrian Top 10 for three months. Other singles have included "Body Heat'' and "No Chance.'' The rest of the band are Erwin Geppner, a computer operations assistant at the US Embassy in Vienna, Werner Freistaetter, an applications technician, New Yorker Sandy Cooper, a music professor and English teacher, and two Nigerian rappers Felix Okon aka B-nice and Tony Idowu alias Def-ton.
Speaking from Vienna, Mrs. Pfau said everything seemed to have happened quickly for her daughter. "She was singing karaoke in Vienna when somebody from the group heard her.
"The first single came out and it sold more than 30,000 copies. She then went to London to record the video for Euro MTV. We have been told that it is the first video recorded by an Austrian band.
"She has also signed a contract with Sony International to sell her music in England and the United States.
"She is getting to be really famous in Austria. People seem to associate Heidi and Felix as the main people in the band.'' While friends have visited the family in Austria, it is 10 years since they visited Bermuda. Mrs. Pfau hoped that Heidi would soon be able to return to her birthplace for a vacation. "We have a lot of relatives in Bermuda and I'm sure they will to be pleased to hear about Heidi's success,'' she added.
