Up with people on island peace mission
in Bermuda two years ago, is set to return next Tuesday.
And with four Bermudians and 46 other young people representing 13 different countries, the group's promotion coordinator Miss Paula Kennedy promised "a treat for all.'' The visiting cast -- one third of Up With People's total number -- will give 14 performances during their two-week stay. Among those performing will be Bermudians Tequita Dickenson, Natalie Peerech, Kari Judd and Laurita Thomas.
The group will spend much of their time visiting schools, Miss Kennedy explained, since the theme of the visit is "Peace Through the Eyes of Children.'' "We have a contest where children can draw or write poetry about what they the theme means,'' Miss Kennedy said. "And we will hold workshops for different age groups to discuss their work.'' Up With People cast member Mr. Robin Brittain-Long, from Sweden, estimated that the group would meet several thousand students during visits to Mount St.
Agnes Academy, Berkeley Institute, Whitney Institute, East End Primary and Sandys Secondary.
He said students from other schools have been invited to these performances Miss Kennedy noted that students would be allowed to join in the shows at each of the schools.
Shortly after the group arrives on Tuesday, they will give a children's performance at Francis Patton.
The cast will also take part in community services, which is part of Up With People's philosophy.
"We will be serving at the Agricultural Exhibition and visiting the AIDS hospice, Hope Homes, and the children's ward in the hospital,'' said Miss Kennedy.
On May 2 and 3, Up With People will perform its "all-new'' show "Rhythm Of The World'' at Dockyard for free.
The musical extravaganza, sponsored by the Bank of Bermuda, will feature music composed by 15 writers from six countries.
"The show takes the audience on an unforgettable journey around the world,'' Miss Kennedy enthused.
The May 2 show, which begins at 7.30 p.m., will be the group's first night performance in Bermuda. The May 3 show begins at 3 p.m.
After both shows, interviews will be conducted for those interested in joining the touring group.
Mr. Brittain-Long, who signed up last July and has travelled extensively since, said applicants need not have show business experience. But they must be high school graduates who are "very mature, willing to learn, and willing to do community service.''
