Views of a happy tourist

family of one of her former students who lives in St. George's and readily gave her opinions about Bermuda.

Question: How did you choose Bermuda as your travel destination? Answer: "I had been wanting to visit Bermuda for a long time. Luckily the opportunity arose when a student of mine and her family moved to the island.'' Question: Did you arrive by plane or boat? "The flight over was wonderful on US Air from Charlotte, North Carolina! Only about 40 people were aboard.'' Question: What was the first thing you noticed about Bermuda? "On my arrival the first thing I noticed from the air was the beautiful water surrounding the islands. The blues were several colours and the sandy beaches were breathtaking!'' "After landing I had the pleasure of finding the beaches were as beautiful up close as they were from the plane. We went to beautiful Fort St. Catherine Beach and it was breathtaking.

"Next I noticed the flowering hedges, especially the hibiscus. I have some in my own yard and was amazed that it grew so plentiful in Bermuda.'' What have you most enjoyed about your visit? "Walking from my hosts' home through the walled narrow alleys, observing the names of the ancient alleys, admiring the architecture, and seeing the hibiscus and oleanders on the way down to St. George's Square for the entertainment. It was heritage night and the entertainment was outstanding.

"Swimming in the beaches and coves of the lovely South Shore and Fort St.

Catherine's Beach in St. George's.'' "As a visitor of a family I enjoyed getting to know them better and learning about their life on the Island. Being shown around Bermuda by a local was the ultimate and Bermudians are so friendly and polite.'' "I was able to meet their friends, co-workers, neighbours, and extended family and I feel fortunate because few tourists have this experience.

"Many of the best tourist attractions were brought to my attention which otherwise I would not have known which way to go.

Question: Would you name the tours you enjoyed the most? "I probably went on 14 tours and they were all interesting and delightful. I guess my top tours were: The Aquarium, Crystal Caves, Bermuda Perfumery, The Mitchell House of the St. George's Historical Society, St. Peter's Church, The Bermuda Library and St. David's Lighthouse and I climbed all 108 steps to the top and what a view!'' Question: How do you find our transportation? "Most of the time we took the bus. It was fun, efficient, and easy riding. I liked it so well that I purchased a ornamental refrigerator magnet of my `Pink Limousine'. The ferry was a visual delight and I loved sitting outdoors.'' Question: Do you plan to visit again and would you recommend Bermuda to your friends and family? "I am already planning a return trip to Bermuda next summer. I have been invited to visit again and I would love to. Yes, I will and have encouraged my friends to visit Bermuda. I feel like I am living in a lovely dream.'' Question: Do you have any suggestions regarding tourism? "Do something to help tourists become more aware of how easy it is to use the bus for transportation. Perhaps bus schedules and fares could be placed in more obvious places.'' "A ferry service from St. George's to Hamilton and Dockyard would be wonderful as sometimes the buses are very crowded.'' "Keep putting on entertainment on the Town Square, that was a cultural treat and so much fun shopping later. I could tour during the day and shop in the evening.''
