Architects, builders and proud new home owners will have the chance to show off their recently completed properties .
They can enter their showpieces in the Bermuda Building Design Awards sponsored by the Bermuda Commercial Bank and The Bermudian magazine.
In addition to homeowners and architects, designers and draftsmen can enter the contest which was established in 1994 to celebrate architectural excellence.
Projects completed between May 1, 1996 and April 30 of this year are eligible to enter. All buildings must be registered with the Planning Department or completed with an owner/occupier certificate number by April 30, 1997.
This year's contest will feature several categories including domestic homes, renovations to existing structures, commercial properties and townhouses.
Entry forms are available at the Commercial Bank on Church Street or from The Bermudian magazine office on Addendum Lane in Pembroke. All entries should be delivered to Commercial Bank by May 23.
TEACHERS VIE FOR POSTS ED Teachers vie for posts Principals expect to know who they will be working with in the new school year by mid-April.
Interviews are being held at schools across the Island for hundreds of teaching post declared vacant last year.
The Ministry advertised some 260 posts in January.
The advertisements were placed two weeks earlier than usual because of the mammoth task at hand.
Principals at designated middle schools and senior secondary schools have spent the past two weeks selecting staff.
SANDYS MAN INJURED AC Sandys man injured A 21-year-old Sandys man received a broken nose and jaw after his cycle was involved in a collision with two cars along Somerset Road on Monday.
The accident took place during rush hour when the cyclist was driving east on Somerset Road. He was in collision with the first car and lost control.
As a consequence, he struck the second car that was travelling west, head on.
The cyclist was taken to hospital with a broken nose and jawbone and a passenger in one of the cars received bruises to his chest. Only one of the cars received extensive damage to its front.
DRIVER FINED $1,050 CTS Driver fined $1,050 Chuck Simpson left Magistrates' Court $1,050 poorer yesterday after he admitted driving an unlicenced and uninsured motorcar while disqualified.
Simpson, 42, of Clearwater Apartments, Hamilton Parish was also disqualified for a year.
Sgt. Phil Taylor, prosecuting, said Police stopped his car around 11.25 a.m.
on March 16 when he was driving west on Kindley Field Road, St. George's.
Police officers discovered Simpson was taken off the road for an earlier offence until October 28, 1997.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined Simpson $400 for the disqualified driving offence and took him off for a further 12 months.
He also received a $150 fine for driving the unlicensed car and $500 for having no insurance.
BANNED DRIVER FINED CTS Banned driver fined A 41-year-old St. George's' man was fined $1,050 after he pleaded guilty to driving an unlicensed and uninsured car while disqualified.
Derrick Lambe, of Redcoat Lane, admitted the offences in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Sgt. Phil Taylor, prosecuting, said Police stopped Lambe on Kindley Field Road, St. David's on March 18.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis took Lambe off the road for a further 12 months and fined him $400 for the disqualified driving offence and $150 for driving the unlicensed car. Mr. Francis imposed a $500 fine for the uninsured driving conviction.
NIGHT SCHOLL OPENS POL Night school opens Police are again to run their Night School giving the public a chance to see inside the Service.
The course involves seven evening sessions at the Police Training School, at Prospect.
Courses start at 7 p.m and last to 9.30 p.m. and run on Tuesday nights only starting on April 15.
