Blockbusters to be shown at Barr's Bay and other venues
Movies under the moonlight are back on again – with a big selection of blockbusters to enjoy.
The Moonlight Movie Series will show two films tomorrow at Barr's Bay Park and more films will be shown at venues including Horseshoe Bay beach, Clearwater beach, Royal Naval Dockyard, Bermuda College, the Arboretum, Front Street and the Botanical Gardens.
The shows are put on by Startime and the company's Eugene Dean said: "The format for the series has remained fairly consistent over the past three years. Each year some of the venues change, however the mission and objectives remain the same."
He said the plan was to mix recent hits, classics and documentaries, adding: "We are also in conversation with local film producers about screening local shorts.
"Some of the films being shown this year include 'Avatar', 'Couples Retreat', 'How to Train Your Dragon', 'The Blind Side', 'Tapped' and '2012'."
The films are chosen by a team of researchers. "They recommend several of the films shown in the series, however we also afford sponsors the opportunity to give input to the selections as well," said Mr. Dean.
"Our team is still actively pursuing sponsors, and we encourage anyone who benefits from or sees value in the Moonlight Movie Series to encourage companies they are familiar with or associated with to support the series as sponsors," he added. Current sponsors are Cellular One, Ace and Validus Re.
Asked what goes into producing the Moonlight Movie Series, Mr. Dean said: "It is a massive venture, which requires the better part of the off-season to plan and the entire summer to produce.
"Securing venues is one of the first responsibilities along with securing sponsors and obtaining the rights for films. The marketing strategy is fairly comprehensive and somewhat challenging to keep up with as we have the task of producing new marketing and public relations materials each week.
"With experience we have improved the efficiency of our setup, however each venue has its own dynamics and as a result each week brings its own unique tasks. We have vendors to coordinate, entertainment to book and depending on the venue, restrooms, lighting and power are things that also may be required of us to arrange.
"Overall it is an enjoyable exercise when we consider the thousands of people who benefit from the series. Ultimately for us it is a community programme, which in our view, provides everyone with the opportunity to build upon its effectiveness by getting involved."
