Bodybuilding team in Grenada for 38th CACC championships
Bermuda's top bodybuilders are in Grenada today, weighing in for the 38th Annual Central American and Caribbean Figure, Fitness, and Bodybuilding Championships (CACC).
The three day competition begins at weigh-ins this morning, continues with pre-judging on Friday, and culminates with final judging on Saturday.
Bermuda will be represented in several categories, including Figure, Women's Fitness, Men's Fitness, Women's Bodybuilding, and Men's Open Bodybuilding.
In Figure, Betty Doyling (Class A), Mechelle Willins (Class B), Jenille Devenson-Smith (Class C), and Ranae Cann (Class D) will compete for honours.
Bermuda's national Fitness competitors include Natasha Rayner (Women's Class A), Carolina Erasmus (Women's Class B), and Monroe Darrell (Men's Fitness), all of whom medaled at the recent Bermuda Bodybuilding Federation's Night of Champions.
Susan Rebello, our 2009 Ms. Bermuda, will represent in Women's Bodybuilding, while the Island will gain exposure in the Men's Open competition through a host of wily veterans and bright-eyed newcomers.
Five-time Mr. Bermuda Ross Caesar will lead the Bermuda men, as he tries to take honours in the Middleweight division. Ross will be supported by veterans Javaughn Dill in the Lightweight division and Garwin "House" Phillips in the Heavyweight division, and promising newcomers Devon Bean and Leroy Maxwell, who will both compete in the Welterweight division.
This is the largest team ever to represent Bermuda in this competition with 13 competitors in all. Team Manager and Coach Melanie DeRosa is very pleased with this year's contingent, saying: "Our team looks very strong, and we are expecting good results. The team members have been working very hard, and are in great condition."
The CACC is also a Professional qualifier, which means that if an athlete wins his or her overall division they have the option to take their Professional Card. Ms DeRosa added: "Bermuda has been quite successful in previous years with six team members in various years receiving their pro card."
This team is sanctioned by the Bermuda Bodybuilding Federation, and the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB), and sponsored by People's Pharmacy and International Plastic Surgery Associates.
