Charities benefit from Capital G
A host of local charities received an economic boost at Capital G's Second Annual Charity Reception.
Capital G held the event on July 9 at the Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa, to recognise the company's 2009 Giving Back Charity Recipients.
Seventy-one guests in attendance representing 50 of Capital G's 'Giving Back' Charitable Programme recipients. Capital G awarded funds to 50 local charities in the second quarter of this year.
"As a community bank, Capital G is pleased to support the endeavors of charitable groups that help improve the lives of people of all ages in Bermuda," said John Kephart, President & CEO or Capital G Bank.
"Capital G continues to encourage our clients to join us in giving to such programmes as The Family Centre Tag Day on July 29th.
"We invite customers to contribute by visiting Capital G's Hamilton branch or to make an online donation.
"We believe giving is a collective responsibility to ensure a thriving and healthy community."
This year given the state of the Bermuda economy, Capital G felt it was important to focus on social issues facing families in need, in particular the youth in its 2009 'Giving Back' Programme.
Through focused giving, Capital G introduced its Youth Give, a school-based charitable initiative.
The Capital G Youth Give programme was launched earlier this year in partnership with the Centre on Philanthropy and two weeks ago, Capital G awarded two $5,000 grants to CedarBridge Academy and The Bermuda Institute as a part of the initiative.
"Capital G has evolved its charitable programme by looking at giving more strategically and rather than just simply making a donation we look to develop strong relations with our charitable partners which include staff volunteering programmes and sound financial advice, all intended for future sustainability of philanthropy in Bermuda," said Mr. Kephart.
A few of the charities to receive funds were the Aerie Foundation, the Bermuda High School for Girls, The Tae Durham Charitable Association for Physically Challenged Children, Keep Bermuda Beautiful, the Bermuda Equestrian Federation and Tomorrow's Voices - Bermuda Autism Early Intervention Centre, among others.
A newly-built partnership between Capital G and The International Charitable Fund of Bermuda Inc, a 501(c)3 charity that offers all charities in Bermuda the chance to benefit from American citizens' donations regardless of their place of residence. American donors will receive an appropriate American tax benefit.
