Ciara rides to the top of the charts
Happy Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day/Armistice Day peeps! There's a lot going on in Bermuda these days. We have the World Rugby Classic. My beloved Bermuda Regiment will tomorrow be presented its new Colours (Flags). Dame Jennifer is moving ahead with reforming Education. The Musical Chairs for Ministers and Musical Chairs for Permanent Secretaries workshop is almost concluded. Hopefully the Government and the country can get back to business and focus on the objectives and the things that we all know need to be done. More on this after the Top 20.

Now back to this week's word – all in the news! There's a smorgasboard of events, activities and things to do going on in Bermuda! Whoever said this place has nothing to do must be asleep at the wheel. I can't keep up with everything that's going on.
As a former soldier, no offence to anything or anybody else, the highlight of the next week will be when the Bermuda Regiment is presented its new colours. Regrettably I will be off Island; but my heart and thoughts will be with my brothers and sisters in arms who will be a part of this auspicious and regal occasion.
For some reason I'm not into the World Rugby Classic this year; although all signs point to a good Classic with lots of visitors. The few hotels we have left (that's another conversation) are mostly fully booked. I tried booking a room for a visitor earlier this week and the only place he could find a room was at Fairmont Southampton; at the sweet rate of $449! Good for Fairmont! You just gotta love the yield management formulas. But don't hate; Bermuda is one of the most expensive places in the world to do business. Don't question me on this; I've done the maths and even presented on local TV on this subject. Y'all know that tourism is dear to my heart.
But an encouraging occurrence was the return of Darren Johnston and Vince Ingham to the Board of Education. This speaks volumes about Dame Jennifer's leadership style and credibility. She brought such hope that the Chair and Deputy who had quit agreed to return. This can only be good news and a harbinger of things to come. I am praying that she can turn the tide in Education and sort out this mess. She is off to a flying start. Long may it continue.
But the gunshots are troubling. The Premier has entitled Minister Burch's portfolio as the Ministry of National Security. Well done; it's absolutely right. Public Safety is a passé term; but more than words, we need action. But it's not all about the politicians. If Bermuda is to turn around, it is up to every man, woman, boy and girl to make the change.
My exit strategy this week includes a quote from that great man, the first black (OK yes he's biracial but the white folks didn't claim him for the first 46 years of his life!) President of the United States of America, who once proclaimed, and this requires a paragraph unto itself:
"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."
Peace … DJLT
