Einstein and dyslexia

Albert Einstein discovered the theory of relativity, and is considered one of the greatest geniuses of the 20th century, but he would have struggled to read to the end of this sentence.

British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, inventor Alexander Graham Bell, singer Harry Belafonte, photographer Ansel Adams and musician John Lennon also would have had difficulty.

Researchers have found that there is an upside to dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Because people with learning disabilities often have to find another way around a problem, they are often found to be creative thinkers.

The fact that so many of our greatest thinkers, leaders, artists and musicians have or had dyslexia, has led some people to refer to it as "the gift of dyslexia" rather than "dyslexia the disorder".

But dyslexia definitely has its downside. People who have a hard time reading, struggle to find good jobs and cope with life. There is a disproportionate number of people in prison with dyslexia.

The good news is that when the dyslexia is addressed, recidivism drops significantly.
