Even this self-confessed wallflower was swaying to the beat at Chaplin Bay
Barmuvinjam is known for getting people up and moving on the dance floor, and even me, a self-professed wallflower, found myself swaying to the beat on Saturday night at Chaplin Bay.
It was the Liquid Space Fashion Show and Beach party and hundreds of young party-goers came out to enjoy the sounds of local DJ's Vybez Alliance, DJ Aztec, Dnice, C-Danger, Jake and Lenny and D-General.
The event started at approximately 8.30 p.m. just as the moon came out to play and gorgeous models (from JaKoMa) were ready to work the runway.
Wearing a mix of high fashion pieces and everyday wear from the Stefanel group of Companies (Stefanel, Mambo and Sasch); the fashion show portion of the evening was ultimately a taste of what's in stores now and what's soon to come.
The summer collection was filled with bright whites, metallics and floral prints- the fall/winter collection was more retro complete with berets and jacket with fur accents.
Each model had their own walk, their own persona on stage, and if it wasn't the white-hot wigs that captivated the audience's attention, it was certainly the garments, from designers such as Cavalli, Galliano and Diesel which kept all eyes fixed on stage.
Three girls were honoured for strutting the catwalk like pros- and along with a $250 gift certificate, the young beauties Deana Williams, Alexandria Anderson and Christina Troja will hold the title of Miss Sasch, Miss Stefanel and Miss Mambo, respectively, for 2008. Another big winner for the evening walked, or rather rode, away from the party with a new Mio bike, valued at more than $2,500, courtesy of Cycle Care.
From the runway to the soiree- the bouncy-house music of DJ Chubb turned into a popular mix of soca, dance hall, hip-hop and much more. Local DJ's took to the stage to get the night going, playing hot songs such as 'Love is wicked' by Brick and Lace and 'I kissed a girl' by Katie Perry. And party-goers abandoned their shoes (and their cares) to dance on the soft sands of the Southshore- now that's a tounge twister you've never heard.
A barbeque was blazing for most of the night, and the rest of the heat was generated by young girls and guys intent on having a good time. The party seemed to be at it's peak around mid-night as models and party-goers gathered on the runway stage to show off their best moves. Had I had more drinks in my system, I might have been tempted to join them, but the night drifted and I stayed sober, my feet still planted (rather firmly, might I add) on the ground.
Even without any Grey Goose pumping through my blood, I reveled in the atmosphere of luminous stars and glow sticks.
The F1 Video DJ's from Barbados spun their mixes, accompanied by two mega screens on the beach, and didn't dissapoint as the night winded down.
All-in-all it was a wonderful evening out and everyone seemed to have a great time. Even this wallflower was swaying to the beat- and persuaded to brush up on her dancing skills in time for the next Barmuvinjam bash.
