Event to benefit Haiti relief effort

Dawud Tucker

Dawud Tucker and a group of friends were so torn up by the earthquake in Haiti that they decided there must be something they could do to help from here.

With this in mind, Mr. Tucker and his friends decided upon a charity to support and pulled together an event, which takes place at The Cellar, at the Fairmont Southampton tomorrow.

Like many, Mr. Tucker was moved by the fact that the island was one of the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere.

They decided to support two charities: the Haiti Village Health charity, spearheaded by Dr. Tiffany Keenan, and Wesly Guiteau who is also doing his part to give back to his native country.

"Our main goal for producing the event is to give those an opportunity to contribute towards Haiti's relief efforts," said Mr. Tucker.

"Even though a significant amount of time has passed since the earthquake, we want to keep the fundraising momentum alive. This is a time where they are rebuilding and restructuring their community. I believe that the Bermudian people can use this event to come together and give."

"We are encouraging guests to wear red, blue or black, which represents Haiti's national colours."

Everyone who attends will have a chance to win a travel voucher sponsored by C-Travel and there will be special giveaways throughout the night.

Music will be spun by Jugglin Jason, DJ Juelz and DJ General. Doors open at 10 p.m.

Tickets $25, are available at Rock Island, Sasch and Soundstage.
