Family expert to host weekend seminars

Author and family life expert Nancy Van Pelt will deliver a series of seminars this weekend aimed at single parents and single adults.

Ms Van Pelt, the author of "The Compleat Marriage" and "To Have and to Hold", has been brough to Bermuda by the Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Singles' Ministries department.

The department has organised a weekend of activities, to mark National Single Parents Day, which is on Saturday.

Ms Van Pelt has conducted over 3,000 seminars around the world and the church said her presentations are loaded with practical ways of helping participants improve the quality of their most meaningful relationships – family.

Although the seminars are aimed primarily at singles, married couples are also welcome, the church said.

The kick-off "Magic for Marriag" will be held at the Warwick Seventh-day Adventist Church at 92 South Road today at 7 p.m. This is aimed at discovering how to meet "His 'n Her" emotional needs, learn what habits kill romantic love and find out why we communicate the way we do.

The remainder of the weekend will be hosted by the Devonshire Seventh-day Adventist Church. Tomorrow's session will start the "Single's Weekend" theme with "Six Stupid Things Singles Do to Mess up their Lives".

Saturday's sessions have a particular emphasis on single parents and parenting. Although these seminars would be of particular interest to single dads, these seminars are of benefit to all parents (married or single) and all are invited to attend. Sessions on sexual game playing and break-ups are on Sunday. They will be held at the Adventist Youth Centre on King Street in Hamilton.

The final registration session that starts at 5.30 p.m. tomorrow at the Devonshire SDA Church located on Roberts Avenue in Devonshire. Childcare will be provided for children aged 3-12 for all registered participants.

In addition, Ms Van Pelt's books will be on sale on Saturday evening. Check out some of her famous titles by going to her website: www.heartnhome.com
