when "Into Print: The Techniques of Printmaking'' opens this weekend.

Works by some of the world's leading artists, all lent by local collectors, will go on show. They include a copper engraving by Gustave Dore m, etchings by Manet, Goya, James McNeil Whistler and Dame Elizabeth Frink, lithographs by David Hockney, Robert Motherwell and Roy Lichtenstein, engravings by Rembrandt, Hogarth, and Van Leyden. There are also prints by Bermuda's Desmond Fountain, Graeme Outerbridge, Helen Wight, and David Robinson.

A series of photographs and written descriptions will demonstrate some of the methods of printmaking.

The exhibition, sponsored by the Christian Humann foundation, is staged in close collaboration with American printmaker, Kenneth E. Tyler, whose Tyler Graphics Ltd. workshop in New York State attracts many leading artists.

Mr. Tyler, who celebrates his 30th anniversary as a printmaker and publisher this year, will be visiting Bermuda and will give a lecture on November 2 at the Gallery.

A series of workshops, open to all, continue today at the Gallery, from 5.30 to 6.30 p.m., conducted by Laura Gorham and Marlee Robinson. On Tuesday, October 3, Helen Daniel will lead a lunch-time session at 12.30 p.m., with Elizabeth Ann Trott on Thursday, October 5 at 5.30 p.m. and on Saturday, October 7 there will be a "hands on'' workshop, conducted by Carmen Mitchell at Dellwood School, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. This latter training session is aimed at primary school teachers.

"Into Print'' opens to the general public on Saturday and the show runs through January 1996.

The Bermuda National Gallery is now re-opening on Sundays after the summer break. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays, and from 12.30 to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
