'Luck is the point where opportunity meets preparation'

Number one: Usher with 'Li'l Freak'

Hello Bermuda. In fact, hello Harris Bay! Last weekend history was made and I would be remiss if I didn't dedicate this piece to my team, Cleveland County Cricket Club, who successfully defended their title as Champions of the Eastern Counties Cricket Competition. It was a nail biter right down to the last ball when bad light was called, but it really was a good game. More on this after the Top 20.

:Advancing to the top spot is 'L'il Freak' by Usher featuring Nicki Manj. Up to #2 is 'OMG' by Usher featuring will.i.am. Clawing up to #3 is 'California Girls' by Katy Perry, featuring Snoop Dogg, which is finally number one in the dance/club play charts. I truly like this track; it has energy, spunk and personality, just like the two collaborators. Falling to #4 is 'Nothing On You' by BoB, featuring Bruno Mars.

Improving to #5 is 'Palance'by JW and Blaze, an energy packed soca anthem. Slipping to #6 is 'Unthinkable' by Alicia Keys. Slipping to #7 is 'I'm Not A Superstar' by Remady. Down to #8 it's 'Break Your Heart' by Taio Cruz, featuring Ludacris.

Up to #9 is 'Find your love' by Drake, a former essential new tune. 'Over', by Drake, falls to number 10.

Improving to # 11 it's 'I Love The Way You Lie' by Eminem featuring Rihanna. Jumping to #12 is 'Rockstar 10', also by Rihanna. Tumbling to #13 is 'My Chick Bad' by Ludacris featuring Nicki Manj. Falling to #14 is 'There Goes My Baby' by Usher.<

Falling to #15 is 'Neighbors Know My Name' by Trey Songz. Slipping to #16 is a former essential new hit, 'Commander'by Kelly Rowland featuring David Guetta. Improving to #17 is the soca/dance hit entitled 'Party Hard' by Donee'o'.

Now this week's essential new hit. In at #18 is 'Dynamite' by Taio Cruz. This is your typical dance, club, bubble gum, pop hit. The Captain has been playing it on Mix 106 and it works at parties, nightclubs, cruises, wherever. Speaking of the Captain, it's good to have him back on the airwaves and I must say that he is a refreshing change to some of the other morning hosts who talk too much. Many of us want more music and less talk. So big up Captain and continue to 'play me a tune'.

New at # 19 is 'I like It' by Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull. What a duo. In at #20 is 'Ride' by Ciara featuring Ludacris

Now back to this week's word the Eastern Counties. Earlier in the summer, I wrote that the Eastern Counties had become the laughing stock of local cricket. Whilst I maintain that St. David's pulling out of the tournament and the stance by a few Bailey's Bay players is simply ridiculous, I have to commend Cleveland and Flatts for taking advantage of the opportunity.

There is a wise quote, I'm not sure who wrote it but I remember Denzel Washington once using it, which goes, "Luck is the point where opportunity meets preparation". This quote pretty much sums up Cleveland being the champions at this moment. They were very lucky in the St. David's pulled out of the tournament, but they were prepared to take advantage of that opportunity.

I am so proud of my team, Cleveland, for successfully defending their championship status and I was really happy for Dennis Musson Jr., our captain.

He was unlucky to not make Cup Match a few years ago and he is maturing into a good leader. The bigger picture is that this experience will not only prepare him to lead a cricket team but it should prepare him to be a leader of his family, his community, ultimately making him a better man, and we all know that this country needs better men.

I also agree with our skipper, who said: "You can only beat who shows up to play. Anyone who says this season doesn't count (because St David's pulled out), they should forget that." But now onto the next round and preparations to beat Bailey's Bay.

History was made last Saturday and Harris Bay, after 29 years, has finally won the title. I remember that the last time we won the Cup was 1981. I remember because I came into the team a year later and we never won it during my time playing.

That built character and made me a gracious loser. A colleague, who played against me often and beat us most of the time jokes, "You were a gracious loser because you had lots of practice!" He is right, but a message to players and readers is one of my favourite quotes from the famous poem 'If' by Rudyard Kipling, which, reads, "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two imposters just the same…….you'll be a man my son". That's tough to do but it is some of the best advice I've ever been given and is one of the hallmarks of a great man.

In any event, well done Cleveland. Let's learn from this game, build on it, continue to prepare and be ready to successfully defend our title against Bailey's Bay in the next round. And no matter who is picked, let's support the team the selectors put on the field and cheer them on to victory! Let's not have any dissension in our team, only full support by players, officials and fans. Let's be like a family a true team, and stay together through thick and thin, win lose or draw. Remember that we are die hards and don't forget the words of our devoted and self appointed lead fan, the Mayor of Devil's Hole, Mr. Colin Donald 'Bo' Smith, who always says: "There ain't no county, like Cleveland County. There ain't no Hole, like Devil's Hole, There ain't no Bay, like Harris' Bay and their ain't no Dale, like Church Dale". Peace.......… DJLT.
