National Gallery to publish art collection book
If you are looking for that special holiday gift for the art lover in your life, the Bermuda National Gallery (BNG) thinks they might have just the thing.
This month the BNG is launching a new art book 'Cross Currents: Impressions of Bermuda, The David L. White Collection'.
It comes out ahead of an upcoming exhibition of paintings from the same collection.
"The sale of the book is an important fundraiser for the BNG as all funds raised from the sale of the book directly support the BNG," said BNG director Lisa Howie. "It is a perfect Christmas present for art lovers."
She said an added benefit was that the 120-page full colour book was priced relatively inexpensively at $50. The actual exhibition of The David L. White Collection will be on display from January 29 to June 3, 2010.
Mr. White, a former Editor of The Royal Gazette, has been collecting art for many years.
"This collection of artwork, many by American Impressionists, captures the luminosity and beauty in Bermuda's landscape," said Ms Howie.
"We are very fortunate and appreciative to have been loaned such a well assembled collection by David White, and the book serves as both a catalogue and a fundraiser.
"With the book launch prior to Christmas we hope that the community will support the BNG with this important fundraiser, as well as get excited about the opening of the exhibition in the new year."
BNG chairman, Gary Phillips said: "The trustees are hugely grateful to David White for his ongoing support of the BNG.
"By directing all the proceeds of the sale of 'Cross Currents' to the gallery, his support is even more significant especially in this climate. Another important feature is that the book itself is a work of art, where the collection of paintings has been magnificently photographed by Ann Spurling."
The book launch will take place on Friday, November 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Bermuda National Gallery, City Hall, Hamilton.
