OMG! Look who is number one It's Cleveland County Cricket Club . . . oh, and Usher too
Cleveland County Cricket Club are the official Eastern Counties Cup Competition Champions for 2010! Wow is all I can say.
The 2010 CCCC team is now officially the best team we've had in 29 years! I know that league play is theoretically more important but County Cup means far more to our community and this title has already brought the entire community together. I know all of this and I've been in sunny South Florida since the day they defeated Bailey's Bay! That's how far the word has spread. More on this after the top tunes.
Holding #1 is OMG by Usher featuring will.i.am. This is a big tune. Halting its climb at #2 is California Girls by Katy Perry, featuring Snoop Dogg, a dance/club/pop hit is catchy, even on South Beach! Jay you should visit soon!
Improving to #3 is Palance by JW and Blaze, the soca anthem for 2010. Tumbling to #4 is L'il Freak by Usher featuring Nicki Manj. Up to #5 is Find Your Love by Drake, a former essential new tune. Slipping to #6 is Nothing On You by BoB featuring Bruno Mars.
Halting its slide at #7 is Unthinkable by Alicia Keys. Improving to # 8 it's I Love The Way You Lie by Eminem featuring Rihanna. Down to #9 is I'm Not A Superstar by Remady, a dance anthem earlier this year. Jumping to #10 is Rockstar 10, also by Rihanna. Down to #11 it's Break Your Heart by Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris.
Improving to #12 is the soca/dance hit entitled Party Hard by Donee'o. Over, by Drake, falls to number 13.
Improving to #14 is Dynamite by Taio Cruz, which is tearing up charts all over the planet. Up to #15 is I like it by Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull. Climbing to #16 is Ride by Ciara featuring Ludacris.
Falling to #17 is There Goes My Baby by Usher. Down to #18 is My Chick Bad by Ludacris featuring Nicki Manj. At #19 is Neighbors Know My Name by Trey Songz. On the way out at #20 is a Commander, by Kelly Rowland featuring David Guetta.
Now back to today's topic the 4Cs. CCCC, you have no clue what you have done! You have fulfilled the wishes of so many people; some of whom are deceased; having not seen a CCCC victory in 30 years. Count me in that number. I came into the team in 1982, the year after we last won the title and we never won it during my playing career.
Dennis Musson Jr. is now officially one of the best captains and one of the most successful captains we've ever had. On his watch, we defended the title twice! I can't remember the last CCCC captain to accomplish that feat! Well done to you my son. You are a great captain and a great leader. I know your father is the proudest man on the planet. Keep it up. Build your team from strength to strength. Well done to all players, even those who were not selected. Hang in there.
I must congratulate the management, coaches and selectors. I'm thinking of McNeil McGowan, Grant Smith, Allan Douglas Sr., Dennis Musson Sr. (the proud pappa) who have all hung in there through the tough times and low moments, like earlier this year, when some of the players they picked for County Cup dissed us by leaving to play for other teams.
To those players I say that you now need to come back home for 2011! The club has shown you unconditional love by picking you for County Cup even though you left us. To Dion Stovell I say you should come to CCCC in 2011 to help us win some league titles and defend our County title. You know you enjoy playing with us. You have since you were a little boy when Curtis was teaching you the ropes.
We now have the chance to really develop the CCCC cricket programme. With all the interest in and attention around Harris' Bay, we should be able to win league titles. We want to build a strong Premier team and junior teams.
If all goes well we could eventually end up with two senior teams, a Premier team and a First Division team, like we did in the old days when the programme was really rockin'. We had a Sunday team and a Saturday team. That's how you build dynasties like St. David's and Bailey's Bay have been for the past 30 years. It is no coincidence that those two teams have been most successful during the periods when they held the County Cup!
So in reality County Cup is more important than League play, because if you hold the County Cup, success in your league and your overall cricket programme usually follows.
Finally, to prove that CCCC fans are gracious in victory and defeat, I will state that it is my hope that in the not too distant future (like in a few years) Flatts Victoria Cricket Club wins the Eastern Counties, so that their fans, community and cricket programme can enjoy the joy of winning and the opportunities that being Eastern Counties champion offers.
In Harris' Bay, we understand that it's not just about Devil's Hole. We want to make Bermuda a better place for everyone. We want to raise the quality of life for all 65,000 of us. By any legal means necessary. Cricket can help. But this week and this year, I salute the best team in the world Cleveland County Cricket Club. There ain't no county like Cleveland County! Big up the 4Cs! Big tings a gwan!
