Hibiscus art for sale

A unique opportunity to acquire five pieces of original sculpture commissioned from American artist David Horner are being offered for sale locally by the Eikona Gallery.

They are hibiscus leaves, whose sizes range from 19 by 36 inches to 33 by 55 inches, and priced from $1100 to $1700.

Mr. Horner has been an artist for 40 years, and his work is found in the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts.

He has also exhibited in many galleries throughout the State of Texas.

Each of his sculptures is drawn and then placed over 22-gauge steel, following which it is hand cut with a plasma cutter, filed, sanded, and then painted.

The artist then bends it and creates each piece with not only the sculpture itself but also the shadows cast — a technique which he terms "painting with light".

Specifically, each hibiscus leaf can be sold individually as follows: 19 x 36 inches: $1100; 24 x 41 inches: $1250; 25 x 47 inches: $1400; 31 x 51 inches: $1550, and 33 x 55 inches: $1,700. Alternatively, all five can be obtained for $6300.

For further information, contact the Eikona Gallery at (441) 236-2339 or visit website www.eikonagallery.com Eikona's postal address is: P.O. Box HM 3139, Hamilton HMNX, Bermuda.

Scott Stallard photo exhibition

Bermudian professional photographer Scott Stallard has departed from Bermuda as subject matter for his newest exhibition, now on at the Common Ground Café in Chancery Lane.

This time his subject matter is desert landscapes, for which he travelled to various locations, including Namibia, Utah and Arizona.

In order to achieve a translucent effect, Mr. Stallard chose custom metallic prints as his medium.

There are 17 photos in the exhibition, all of which are for sale, and it continues through mid-September.
