People's Awards this month.

The People's Awards Committee, headed by Mr. Lee Edmead, plan to honour one or two locals a month with awards for outstanding service in the community.

They last month ascended upon talk show host Shirley Dill, to give her an award while she was on the air.

"These awards are for the people who make this Country tick,'' Mr. Edmead said. "They aren't OBEs or MBEs.'' This month's People's Awards ceremony is set for this Sunday at the Bethel AME Church in Shelly Bay.

Rev. Alton Thompson, the church's pastor, will be given an award along with Mr. Harold Simmons, a solo street sweeper in the North Shore Road/Blackwatch Pass area for nearly ten years.

Rev. Thompson pioneered evening prayer groups around his parish and other community help projects.
