Steede to walk Island this weekend for seventh year

Marilyn Steede: 24-hour walkathon.

Politicians have been invited to join a Bermuda Regiment sergeant major on a 24-hour trek around the Island this weekend.

Marilyn Steede will take to the Island's roads for the seventh year in a row at 5 a.m. today in a bid to raise thousands of dollars for the PALS cancer charity.

Ms Steede, chief clerk at the Regiment and a serving soldier who recently passed her battle fitness test, told The Royal Gazette that Opposition Senate Leader Michael Dunkley would set off with her at the start.

"He has always come out to support me and will do about two hours with me," she said. "I have extended an invitation to all Government and Opposition MPs and also all senators, including independents, to join me at some point during the event.

I have received some responses from MPs indicating that they will join me."

Ms Steede, a former UBP election candidate, will set out on her 24-hour walkathon at the entrance to Horseshoe Bay, before looping the Island and finishing at 5 a.m. on Sunday in St. George's.

Anyone wishing to sponsor her should call 505-3977 or email steedeorama@northrock.bm.
