'The Queen of Soca' takes to the stage
Fully Animal Entertainment tonight presents "Arrival 2009" at Snorkel Park and it is to feature the "Queen of Soca" herself: Alison Hinds.
Ms Hinds was born in London, England, and lived there until she was 11 when she moved back to Barbados. She joined the Soca band Square One, which became one of the most famous Soca bands around playing smash hits like "Faluma". Mrs. Hinds eventually departed from the band, and produced studio album "Soca Queen" in 2005.
Today she is one of the most popular Soca singers in the world, and has been dubbed the "Queen of Soca". She has produced many popular Soca songs that have topped charts in countries all over the world.
Mrs. Hinds spoke to The Royal Gazette and said: "I decided when I was a little girl growing up in England that I wanted to be a singer or a model. I did go to modeling school in upstate New York, but singing obviously won me over."
Mrs. Hinds has done many collaborations over the years with people such as Peter Ram, Bunji Garlin and Machel Montano. Her most recent ones are with Richie Spice, "with whom I've done a beautiful reggae song called 'King and Queen', and one soon to be released with Shaggy. I also have something else in the works with Wyclef Jean".
She added: "I love music! It's a part of who I am so I can't see myself doing anything else but, I do see myself branching off into other areas of entertainment like acting and doing some workshops to help out the young and up and coming artists."
Mrs. Hinds added: "Raising my daughter, as a working mother, can be challenging at times but, ultimately, it's the best thing that's ever happened to me! I love my job but, there's nothing in the world like having her come to me for no particular reason and say 'mummy I love you soooooo much' and give me a huge hug and kiss. My husband and I are in awe of this little person and she has the ability to make me smile no matter what."
Mrs. Hinds also spoke about a new album that will be coming out. "The name will be 'My Caribbean' and it will be a reflection of the many genres of music we have in this wonderful region," she said.
"For sure the song 'King and Queen' will be there but, we're still in the process of putting it together so I can't say right now what other collabs will be on the album. Look out for a release date soon."

Music is to be provided by DJ Rusty G, D' General, and DJ Scoobay & Y.G.S.
